How It Was Named

Before 1900, Mr. Beverly Shelhorse operated a store (and sold liquor there) in the triangle between the roads on the farm where Mr. Mary Sue Yeatts Williams lives now. The name Redeye supposedly came from the condition of the customers (or perhaps one in particular, whose name is no longer remembered) who frequented Mr. Shelhorse's establishment.

Henry Hurt, owner of the historic Philip Craft House at Redeye, remembers that there exists a colorfully descriptive written quotation about the eyes of the legendary Redeye drinker, but its source (perhaps the late Judge Langhorne Jones, Sr.?) is not known to this writer.
