Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Tony Womack, who helped power the Diamondbacks to the 2001 World Series Championship, will be grand marshal for the Dec. 9 Gretna Christmas parade.
The Diamondbacks slipped into the National League finals by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals. Womack knocked in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Arizona made quick work of the Atlanta Braves for the National League title and went on to defeat the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Pittsylvania County native and Gretna High School graduate was instrumental in helping his team capture both titles.
Making his Major League debut in 1993, Womack played for the Pittsburgh Pirates until joining the Diamondbacks in 1999.
