For a taste of Virginia wine and hospitality, stop by Corky and Nancy Medaglia's vineyard and winery on Tomahawk Creek, west of Chatham, at the more-than-a-century-old Anderson's Mill.
Enjoy the Medaglias' Chardonnay, Johannisberg Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Concord, Tobacco Road Blues (a blend), Apple (from Virginia apples), and Mead (from local honey).
The winery is open for tour and tasting March 15 through December 15, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM. A picnic area is available.
Three festivals are held each year at the winery. April brings Spring Open House, featuring a barrel-tasting. The Summer Festival is held on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the Medaglia's July 25, 1996, purchase of the vineyard.
Directions from Chatham: from Main Street in downtown Chatham, turn west at Chatham's only stoplight onto Depot Street (VA 57). Travel west on VA 57 for 4.5 miles, then turn right on Climax Road (VA 799) for 3.4 miles. Turn left on Anderson Mill Road (VA 649). Proceed 3 miles to Tomahawk Mill Vineyard & Winery on left.
