Trubie Mitchell

Trubie Mitchell's family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the following three recipients.



Martha Washington Inn, Abingdon, Virginia

The Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, formerly Martha Washington College, attended by Trubie's wife Mary prior to her enrollment at Emory & Henry.

Emory & Henry College:
Wiley Henry Scholarship Fund

To donate to the Wiley Henry Scholarship Fund, go to Emory & Henry's online gift form, specify the “Wiley Henry Fund,” and list the gift as in memory of Trubie Mitchell.

Trubie and Mary Mitchell supported the Wiley Henry Scholarship Fund, established to honor the “Martha Girls” who came to Emory, and the relationship between E&H and Martha Washington College. Mary attended “Martha” prior to its closing during the Great Depression, at which point she transferred to Emory & Henry, and was graduated in 1933. Trubie was graduated from Emory & Henry in 1934.

The scholarship is named for Mr. Wiley Henry, long-time employee of Martha Washington College and the Martha Washington Inn.

To donate to Central Presbyterian Church's Habitat for Humanity Fund, send a check to Central Presbyterian Church, 301 Euclid Avenue, Bristol, VA 24201. Specify it for the Habitat for Humanity Fund, in memory of Trubie Mitchell.

For many years, Trubie and Mary Mitchell supported Habitat for Humanity. At the time of her death, Mary was Central Presbyterian Church's oldest member. Habitat for Humanity is a significant focus of the church's outreach, and the church has constructed and assisted in constructing several Habitat homes.

James Trubie Wain Mitchell Scholarship Fund

To donate to the Carter Lodge's James Trubie Wain Mitchell Scholarship Fund, send a check to Carter Lodge #323, c/o James Thomas Ragsdale, Jr., 2384 Pleasant Gap Drive, Dry Fork, VA 24549-4732.

Scholarships are awarded annually based on need and academic achievement. Numerous members of the Carter Lodge were students of Trubie at Spring Garden and Chatham High Schools. Trubie was past Master of the Carter Lodge.
