John M. Calabrisi
BINGHAMTON, NY — John M. Calabrisi, 92, of Binghamton, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Binghamton General Hospital.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Justina Bassano Calabrisi, Binghamton; his children, Teresa Chapman, Conklin, John Calabrisi, St. Petersburg, Fla., Joanne and Bob Callahan, Parrish, Fla., Robert and Janet Calabrisi, Pittsburgh, Pa.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton, and was active in the Greenman Senior Citizens Center. John was one of the oldest living retired members of the Binghamton Fire Department, Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Peter T. Campon Council #206 and the 4th Degree Assembly.
He was retired Director of the Pittsylvania County Schools Planetarium in Chatham, Virginia, and Assistant Director of the E. A. Link Planetarium at the Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton. He taught comparative anatomy and astronomy at Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and was a well-known astronomer.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton, Friday at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday, from 7 - 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of John may be made to the Greenman Senior Citizens Center, 37 Pine St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
