Laura White Alderson


Biographical Sketch

Laura White Alderson has been for many years a full-time freelance writer serving corporations, universities, advertising and PR agencies around the United States.

As a journalist, her articles, whose subjects include natural history, travel, and in-depth profiles, have appeared in National Geographic Traveler, National Wildlife, Poets and Writers Magazine, Redbook, and The Canberra Times in Australia (a series on American authors). Among those whom she has interviewed are Andy Warhol, Ann Landers, the famed British poet Stephen Spencer, the Princess Maria de Rachewiltz (daughter of American poet Ezra Pound), and novelists Doris Betts and Reynolds Price.

Her undergraduate degree, with majors in journalism and in radio, television and motion pictures, is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied honors poetry with Carolyn Kizer, who later won a Pulitzer. Her masters degree is from Hollins College in Roanoke, where she studied film, poetry and short fiction.

A chapbook of her poetry was published through a National Endowment for the Arts grant.

Alderson lives and writes in Raleigh, North Carolina.
